Q. I have never heard of it...Is it new?
A. CAMP has operated annually since 1956. Dave and Janny Brizius have directed CAMP since its inception.
Q. I'm skeptical about camps. What credentials can be provided?
A.The camp has received commendations from Parents Magazine, two Ohio Governors, three mayors of Gahanna, President George Bush, and Successful Meetings Magazine.
Q. Where is CAMP?
A. CAMP is located at the group camping facility of Tar Hollow State Park in southern Ohio, where Ross, Hocking and Vinton counties come together.
Q. Why is it just one week?
A. Because all of the staff are volunteers, taking their vacation time, leave from the military service, etc., to serve. Included in our staff make up are business executives, PHD's, pilots, nurses, teachers, firefighter, ministers - folks from every and many different walks of life.
Q. Can you tell me about the facilities?
A. Campers and staff sleep in log cabins, with at least 1 staff member per 7 campers. They boat, swim and fish in a small lake well-attended by certified life guards and instructors. Meals and certain activities take place in a large, rustic lodge. There is an amphitheater, ball fields, archery course, basketball/volleyball courts, and much more.
Q. What types of programs are offered?
A. Over 20 different classes are available, both week long and daily, from which the campers may choose at least five. There is everything from rappelling to basket weaving, drama, art, karate, crafts, sports, boating, swimming, archery, choir, band, etc., and each class is taught be skilled personnel!
Q. Is this a church camp?
A. The camp is not affiliated with any church, but it is very much spiritually-oriented. It is completely inter-denominational, and no church affiliation is required to attend.
Q. Who can attend?
A. The camp is interracial, and any young person grade 6 through June high school grads are accepted on a first-come first-served basis until camp capacity is reached. After that, names are put on a waiting list pending future cancellations.
Q. What makes this camp different from any other camps?
A. The philosophy, dedication and vision of those in charge makes all the difference. In asking this question to former campers, the answers were often..."Love"..."Spiritual unity"..."A place where you can be yourself"..."A place where you can grow:..."It's like a family"... "Can't describe it-you've got to go to find out!"
